COMMON QUESTIONS
These are some of the most common questions asked by customers:
What’s the difference between refinishing, reglazing and resurfacing?
These terms are used interchangeably and all refer to the process of renewing the surface of your tub, shower, tile, etc.
How long does refinishing take?
Most jobs take 1 day. Depending on the size or complexity of the job, or the amount of repair work, some jobs may require 2 days.
What type of refinishing materials will you use on my tub?
I use only commercially available acrylic polyurethanes which are manufactured specifically for the purpose of professional tub refinishing. Urethanes don’t yellow over time like epoxies.
How long do I need to wait before I can use my refinished tub?
The tub will normally need to cure for 24 hours after its refinished for the coating to properly harden. After this time, it can be used for showering. After 3 days, the tub can be used for bathing.
I’ve heard refinishing can produce an odor. Is this true?
Yes. Odors are produced during the refinishing process and while the coating cures. I run an exhaust system while refinishing to vent odors to the outside. Customers can leave the bathroom door closed and the bathroom exhaust fan on overnight to vent remaining odor. It normally dissipates by the next day.
How long will a refinished tub last?
It’s not unusual for a well cared for professionally refinished tub to last 8+ years.
Do you provide a warranty?
Yes. Residential work is warrantied for 3 years. Commercial or rental work is warrantied for 1 year. Should the finish peel, flake, bubble or otherwise separate from the underlying surface during that time, all repairs are provided at no cost to you. You will receive a warranty statement upon job completion which identifies your job, warranty period, and instructions on how to best care for a refinished tub.
Are you insured?
Yes. I carry comprehensive general liability insurance including completed operations. A certificate of insurance is available upon request.
Do you re-caulk the tub?
Yes. All of the old caulk or silicone is removed from the perimeter of the tub before refinishing. Afterwards, it’s all replaced with new silicone.
Do you remove bathtub liners?
No. The shell or insert applied over a tub is known as a liner. I previously removed liners but no longer offer this service. The reason is that the water that collects between the liner and tub becomes stagnant, produces a sewer like smell, and turns into a very unsanitary condition. I do refinish tubs that have had a liner removed.
